2008-09 Sustainability Report

Overview
I was contracted by Karo Group to be part of the creative team as designer for this project. Syncrude’s bi-monthly electronic newsletter, SYNERGY was an existing sustainability vehicle. So when we were asked to produce Syncrude’s biannual sustainability report while launching a framework for constant sustainability dialogue with company stakeholders, we recommended that SYNERGY become the brand of Sustainability at Syncrude and to brand the report Synergy as well.  

I designed an engaging magazine-style document that incorporated illustration to accompany feature articles. Strong  typography and graphic devices provided an opportunity to layer information—allowing for both the quick- and comprehensive-read—which was supported by sidebars, financial tables, stats, charts, graphs and photography. I designed the first full book proof, after which the book was put into production at Karo.

Outcome
Syncrude won Best in Sustainability Reporting for Editorial and Graphic Design Execution at the 2011 Oilweek/ATB Financial Annual Report Awards.
